On October 26, 2026, UPCYCLE Technologies CEO Masatsuna Ogi spoke at Tokyo Independents, held at Tokyo Innovation Base in Tokyo. About Tokyo Independents
Tokyo Independents is an event organized by the nonprofit organization The Independents Club to support entrepreneurs and growing startups. Through business presentations and networking opportunities with companies, investors, and support organizations, the event aims to foster new business opportunities and professional connections.
The event was held at Tokyo Innovation Base, with online participation available via webinar. Several companies, including UPCYCLE Technologies, presented their business activities and growth strategies.
Introducing Our Technology and Business Model
UPCYCLE Technologies is developing compact catalytic low-temperature carbonization systems designed to process organic waste, including food waste and agricultural residues, at approximately 130°C. By enabling waste treatment and resource recovery at or near the point of generation, the Company aims to reduce transportation and disposal costs while minimizing environmental impact.
The presentation also highlighted our circular business model combining equipment rental and sales with the utilization of semi-carbonized materials for applications such as fuel and agricultural materials. Rather than simply disposing of organic waste, the Company seeks to create a decentralized system that transforms waste into resources for reuse across local communities and industries.
The Company is advancing technology validation and commercialization through initiatives in Japan and overseas. These include public-private demonstration activities in Moriyama City, Shiga Prefecture, equipment performance evaluations in Niigata Prefecture, and demonstration projects involving coffee residues in Malaysia.
Future Outlook
Building on this presentation, UPCYCLE Technologies aims to expand connections with companies, investors, and support organizations while advancing demonstration opportunities, strategic partnerships, and the commercialization of its carbonization systems.
Guided by our mission of “Building Infrastructure that Transforms Waste into Resources,” we will continue working toward the practical implementation of decentralized resource circulation models and the development of a sustainable circular economy.
