Launching a Demonstration Project to Build a Regional Circular Economy Model for Organic Waste
UPCYCLE Technologies Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has been selected as one of six companies for the Public-Private Partnership Support Program organized by Moriyama City, Shiga Prefecture.
The program aims to address regional challenges and create new social value by promoting collaboration between local governments and private companies with innovative technologies and services. Following a nationwide call for proposals, Moriyama City selected six projects that will work closely with the city to conduct demonstration projects and accelerate the social implementation of their solutions.
Through this initiative, UPCYCLE Technologies will demonstrate a regional resource circulation model utilizing its proprietary Catalytic Low-Temperature Carbonization Technology, which converts organic waste—including food waste and agricultural residues—into high-quality biochar.
The demonstration project will be carried out in collaboration with local restaurants, food-related businesses, agricultural organizations, and other stakeholders in Moriyama City. The project will evaluate:
◇ Establishing a local resource circulation system for organic waste
◇ Reducing waste treatment and transportation costs
◇ Lowering CO₂ emissions
◇ Creating regional value through the agricultural utilization of biochar
By validating these initiatives, UPCYCLE Technologies aims to contribute to the realization of a sustainable circular economy in Moriyama City.
Unlike conventional carbonization systems that require temperatures exceeding 500°C, UPCYCLE Technologies’ proprietary process operates at approximately 130°C, enabling highly energy-efficient carbonization while significantly reducing environmental impact. The technology produces high-quality biochar and is expected to support sustainable waste management across food manufacturing, agriculture, municipalities, and other industries.
This selection represents an important milestone in the company’s mission to transform organic waste into valuable resources. Through close collaboration with Moriyama City, UPCYCLE Technologies will accumulate practical demonstration data, establish a scalable regional circular economy model, and accelerate the nationwide deployment of its innovative solution.
UPCYCLE Technologies remains committed to developing cutting-edge environmental technologies that contribute to a more sustainable and circular society.
