UPCYCLE Technologies Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has been selected for the FY2026 Moriyama City Public-Private Partnership Project Support Program, implemented by Moriyama City, Shiga Prefecture.
Through this project, the Company will conduct a demonstration of a small-scale decentralized biochar production system utilizing its proprietary catalytic low-temperature carbonization technology. The demonstration will target food waste and agricultural residues generated by restaurants, food-related businesses, and agricultural corporations within Moriyama City.
The project aims to efficiently convert high-moisture organic waste into high-value biochar under a low-temperature environment of approximately 130°C, while minimizing the generation of harmful substances. By enabling compact and decentralized deployment, the Company’s technology is expected to promote local resource circulation, reduce environmental impacts associated with waste transportation, decrease reliance on incineration, and contribute to the reduction of CO₂ emissions.
In addition, the resulting biochar will be evaluated for use as a soil amendment in local farmland. The Company will also explore future applications in areas such as fuel materials, construction materials, and bio-based plastic feedstocks.
Through this demonstration project, UPCYCLE Technologies aims to contribute to the establishment of a local circular resource model in Moriyama City, the promotion of sustainable agriculture, the realization of a decarbonized society, and the reduction of environmental impacts within the Lake Biwa watershed. The project also seeks to address regional challenges while creating new circular economy business models.
UPCYCLE Technologies remains committed to advancing technologies that transform underutilized resources into valuable materials and accelerating their social implementation, thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable circular society.
