About MASH UP! KUWANA 2026
MASH UP! KUWANA 2026 is a public-private co-creation initiative organized by Kuwana City in Mie Prefecture, Japan. UPCYCLE Technologies applied for the Open Kyoso Boost! demonstration support program and successfully passed the initial document screening.
At MASH UP! KUWANA 2026 Special Day on December 3, CEO Masatsuna Ogi is scheduled to present the Company’s proposed project and its approach to establishing a regional resource circulation model.
Building a Regional Resource Circulation Model in Kuwana City
The Company’s proposed project, “Building Circular Infrastructure that Transforms Food Waste into Valuable Resources,” aims to establish a regional resource circulation model by converting agricultural and food processing residues into biochar using its proprietary catalytic low-temperature carbonization technology. Target materials include off-specification nabana (flowering greens), bamboo shoots, tomatoes, and mandarin oranges, as well as unused leaves, stems, peels, and residues generated by agricultural processing facilities in Kuwana City.
The proposed demonstration will involve collaboration with farmers, agricultural organizations, and food-related businesses, covering the collection and carbonization of residues through to the evaluation of the resulting biochar for applications such as soil amendments.
Through this initiative, the Company aims to reduce waste disposal, incineration, and associated CO₂ emissions while establishing a sustainable regional resource circulation model that connects Kuwana City’s agricultural and food industries.
Future Outlook
Following the successful initial screening, UPCYCLE Technologies will further develop its demonstration proposal and explore potential collaboration with local stakeholders in preparation for its presentation at Special Day.
Guided by our mission of “Building Infrastructure that Transforms Waste into Resources,” we will continue working to create new value from underutilized regional resources and advance the practical implementation of sustainable resource circulation models.
